We have two children at La Petite Ecole (former name of LFSD) and absolutely love it. The teachers are passionate about their work, very patient with the children, and are great observers in the classroom. But most importantly, they truly love the kids, and provide them with a warm, family atmosphere. Our children are blossoming here, and we’re so excited!
Le Lycée Français de San Diego
About LFSD
A French education. An international perspective. A community where every child is known.
Our History
Une belle histoire, depuis 2003…
It all started small
Founded in 2003, Lycée Français de San Diego began as a small French preschool with a vision to bring high-quality French education to families in San Diego.
Growing together
Over the years, the school has grown alongside its community, expanding from Preschool to Elementary and Middle School while remaining true to its French roots and international outlook.
Age 2 to Grade 8
Today, LFSD welcomes students from age 2 through Grade 8, combining the academic excellence of the French curriculum with a caring, multilingual, and multicultural learning environment.
Still growing, still us
More than 20 years after its founding, LFSD continues to grow and evolve while staying true to what has always been at its heart.
We Owe Them Our Success
LFSD is grateful to our founders, Florence Lebreton and Thierry Pasquet, who laid the foundation for LFSD, and to the dedicated teachers, like Isabelle F., who have been part of our school since its early days. It is thanks to their great work that Le Lycée Français de San Diego earned its accreditation and excellent reputation.
Who We Are Today
Les Enfants d’Abord – Children First
The LFSD motto “Les Enfants d’Abord – Children First” embodies our core principle and philosophy: that the child is the key stakeholder of the school.
Every initiative, strategy, or decision is evaluated through the lens of “How will this affect the children?” and, more importantly, “How is this beneficial to the children?”
Our Core Values
At LFSD, we are committed to upholding the following core values.
Respect
We seek to create a safe and inclusive environment where all students feel supported, valued, and respected, and where individuals can express themselves freely without fear of judgment or discrimination.
Empathy
We believe that kindness, empathy, and compassion are essential in creating a welcoming environment for all.
Academic Excellence
We strive to foster a culture of academic excellence in which students are challenged to reach their full potential, through a rigorous program that inspires critical thinking, intellectual curiosity, an open-minded approach, and a passion for lifelong learning.
Diversity
We embrace multiculturalism and diversity, and we recognize the richness that comes from learning about different cultures, perspectives, and experiences.

Our Community
The academic programs are wonderful and very well rounded. This year, my son’s art, music and French classes were especially interesting. Not only that, but his English has improved tremendously, too.

LFSD parentWe are so happy with La Petite Ecole (former name of LFSD)! Our daughter has learned so much, like counting and the alphabet, but also values like respect and politeness. She is more independent now, and can’t wait to learn and have new experiences, and we have La Petite Ecole (former name of LFSD) to thank for that.
Richard
LFSD parentEver since enrolling my children in La Petite Ecole (former name of LFSD), they are constantly smiling, singing and drawing. They are so happy and eager, they can’t wait to get to school every day. We highly recommend this school to anyone.
