7th Graders in the Science Lab

👩‍🔬 Les 5ème au labo de sciences 👨‍🔬

Kudos to our 7th graders for an exciting day in the lab exploring water purification methods.

🧪 Starting with decanting drops, they delved into filtration and distillation, showcasing a hands-on approach to purifying water.

1️⃣ In the first step, decantation, students collected samples of contaminated water and placed them in the centrifuge. Samples were spun at high speed to check if denser particles would move outward and settle at the bottom.

2️⃣ Moving on to the second step, filtration, students tested systems with a coffee filter and a fabric filter. The liquid retained a brownish color, and not all particles were caught in the filters.

3️⃣ The third step, distillation, involved heating the contaminated liquid to its boiling point, and then magic happened. Vapors rose through the tube, reaching the condenser where they were cooled and returned to liquid form. The collected water was clear and devoid of any particles.

Our 7th graders are not just studying science; they are becoming scientists, problem-solvers, and critical thinkers. The project emphasized teamwork and collaboration, essential skills for future success.
