Can our child really succeed?\u201d<\/em> The short answer is yes. Here is why, and what it looks like in practice at Le Lyc\u00e9e Fran\u00e7ais de San Diego (LFSD).<\/p>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Young children are built for languages<\/h2>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Between ages 2 and 6, children pick up languages naturally. They don&#8217;t learn French the way adults do, with vocabulary lists and grammar rules: they absorb it through songs, stories, games, routines and conversations with their teachers and classmates.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That&#8217;s why our Preschool is fully immersive: everything happens in French, all day long. Children first understand, then start answering, then speak \u2014 usually much faster than their parents expect.<\/p>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">No French required through Kindergarten<\/h2>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At LFSD, children can join in Preschool (from age 2) or Kindergarten without any prior French. Most of the work happens in the classroom, guided by our native French-speaking teachers, in small classes where every child is known.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For older children, it&#8217;s a conversation: we meet with you, look at where your child is with French, and find the right path together \u2014 with language support for as long as your child needs it.<\/p>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Support is part of the program<\/h2>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Children who are new to French, or to English, are not left on their own. LFSD offers fluency programs to help them join their class quickly and confidently. More broadly, every student can receive support in French, English, language fluency and math. This support is <strong>incluido en la colegiatura<\/strong> and takes place during class time, individually or in small groups.<\/p>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What about English?<\/h2>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Parents sometimes worry that their child&#8217;s English will suffer. At LFSD, English is introduced step by step: 45 minutes of English language arts every day in Kindergarten, then about 20% of the week in English from 1st to 4th grade, and a balanced trilingual program (French, English and Spanish) in Upper School. Our students finish Grade 8 ready for U.S. high schools as well as French and international schools.<\/p>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How parents can help, without speaking French<\/h2>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Read every day<\/strong> with your child, in the language you&#8217;re most comfortable with. Strong reading habits carry over from one language to another.<\/li>\n\n\n<li><strong>Show interest:<\/strong> ask your child to teach you a French word, a song or an expression. Children love being the expert!<\/li>\n\n\n<li><strong>Add a little French to daily life:<\/strong> cartoons, music or audiobooks in French.<\/li>\n\n\n<li><strong>Stay in touch with the teacher.<\/strong> Regular communication keeps families involved at every step.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What researchers say<\/h2>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Want to go further?
